i just finished my engine rebuild and everything seemed to work pretty well, however now the car seems to have a lot fo trouble turning over. i'm pretty sure thats just the battery. however the weather here in california has been abnormally warm for this time of year, literally record setting, and now after driving my car for about 45 minutes, the engine seems to get extremely hot, and whenever i come to a quick stop, the car just dies... any ideas why? i can figure it out. i think its either the alternator or the starter, i already know the battery needs to go but what else could it be.

also, i know the starter is heat sensitive, with the header wrapping right around has anyone out there in inliner land had any trouble with the heat of the header messing with the starter?? if so what can be done to fix it????

Thanks for all the help guys

Well, if your car is dieing, it isn't the starter. Could be alternator.

If it is overheating and stalling, my guess is bad timing. It sounds like you may be too retarded (on timing that is).

8) sounds to me like the engine is starving for fuel. either raise the float level a bit or add a bit of idle fuel mix.

the engine itsnt over heating...the gauge usually reads about half way to almost 3/4 hot which is normal for this kind of weather in california. only problem is now that it stalls when i come to a stop.

I'd bet my wife it is the fuel float. Mine did the same thing...float fixed it!
