Starter location question for turbo header???

For those interested in the header that I'm fab'ing up.....
I need to know if any of you potential users have a high mount starter?
My guess is that everyone does have a 200. I've encountered another problem with my "original" design. #6 cyl. primary won't clear the bendix cover. I have a solution but I need to know if anybody out there will be using a low mount starter or has a 250.
I have one header almost completed for a low mount starter or a 250.
Thanks for your help!

Will, Mine is a high mount starter.

You should receive the turbine housing soon. Please let me know when you get it.

Will, would it be too much to ask people to change to an indexable ministarter like Jack has, so one design could be used on both starter locations and flow would not be compromised? The 9-pounds lighter starter and less current draw would be of some benefit. Don't know if this would work ... just a thought.

Build a turbo motor, put lots of care, attention, and $$ into the engine, turbo, exhaust, fuel system, and then cheap out on the starter?:nono: Seems reasonable to spend $150 on a mini gear drive starter for a really nice powerplant.

I picked it up from these guys on ebay. It's listed for an FE (390-428) but it fit my 200 perfectly.

hmm...you're running a later bellhousing? Currently, my bellhousing is a 3 bolt starter, though I've picking up a 67 housing from Al this winter.

If it will fit the 67 bell, and is smaller then the stock starter, that's what I'll be using Will.

Not to be off subject too much, but where does the alternator go with your setup? Between the starter and the power steering pump, I don't have a whole lotta room for a turbo, but I would be interested in the setup some day.

One thing that woould be useful is a bung for an EGO sensor.if you can find a good place to put one. That would allow you to plug in a gauge and tune the carb properly.

POWER STEERING PUMP??? Where does that go! Is it above the alternator? If so then this header won't fit. You'll have to remove the P/S. As it is the alternator or generator will have to be rotated lower. I will provide a longer bracket to accomplish this that will be included with the header/downpipe.

Okefenokee Comet,
If you have a low mount starter then I'm almost done with your's! Just need to fab the downpipe and W/G mount. I'll have it done next weekend.

The exhaust will have to go up a little bit on #6 on the high mount starter. It'll then come back down to the log where the other 5 cyl. dump into. It only has to go up about 1/2" or so. I don't think flow will be comprimised.
I'd rather not require that everybody purchase a new starter just so a header will fit. Nobody should have to do that. Yesterday, after I finished cussing at myself (and Ford for the high mount starter) I was trying to see if I could rotate the stock starter. It might actually be possible to do but would require more work than it would to re-route #6.
I could put a EGO bung after the turbo. No problem. I just need to go and buy a couple of them.
Thanks for the help!

Jack,

I actually thought of that question too...where is a good place for an O2 sensor after the turbo? Closer to the turbo? Before, After? Etc?

EGO sensors have to get hot enought o work. If you use a heated sensor you can place it downstream. An unheated sensor needs to go in the manifold. I recall seeing some turbos with the fitting in the housing. Just after the outlet or just before the inlet might be good locations.

I have a Powermaster going on already :)

I'm not selling them myself. Fordsixparts.com will be selling them. Mike (AZCoupe) and I will be working at SEMA on the pricing.
So stay tuned and check Mike's website for any updates.
Also,
For everybody else....I'm a one man operation and unfortunately I have a "normal" job....so please be patient with me.
Later,
