Suggestions for the aluminum Head

I will be getting a aluminum head in jan as soon as my loan money kicks in for my 170 but I read the info on classic inline it stated that even though it fits they recommend a 200/250. My question is is there any reason for this? I do not want to get a 200 b/c that would contradict the whole purpose of modifying my engine.
I will be dynoing my car in a couple weeks just for fun my guess 53hp I want to have a before and after test. My goal is 150hp but will probably need a turbo. I will also get a new cam. All I have is a 2 barrel and DSII. So what do you guys think is it worth it or am I missing something?

Too much to gain going to the 200ci. Spending that kind of money, might as well get the most for you money. 200ci engines can be had for nearly nothing and you can still drive your vehicle while engine is being built.

That actually sounds like a good idea, but like many other people I like getting the thrill of being the underdog and can't get much better than having the mustang with the smallest original engine keeping up with the bigger guys.
You may have a point, i may start look for a 200/250 and build it up so I can preserve the original. Yet i would really like to say its the "original engine"

Now keeping the original engine intact I can understand. Once you modify it, it's no longer the original engine. Very easy to swap it back in if you ever desired to do so.

Plus, many more upgrades for the 200. I don't think either the DS2 or DUI will fit a 170 block.

plus, who wouldn't want 30 more cubes? 200s are plentiful and cheap.

I also had the same thoughts at first by wanting to keep the ordinal motor. But in the end it made better since to pull it out and sit it in the shop then install the built 200. This way if I blow it up I still have the stock motor ready to go. Like the others have said you can get a used 200 pretty cheap.

I'd pull the 170 and keep it, then build a 200 or a 250 and just put 170 stickers on the air cleaner. Most people have no clue how to tell the difference between them anyway. The exception would be, the people on this site and a few others. Then you could have your cake and eat it too!!!

I agree.... pull the 170 and put it in storage, then build up a 200ci. You'll have more options for the build up, more power under the hood, and like Super4ord says, very few people will know the difference. Plus you can keep driving the car while your building up the new motor.

The early 170's used a 1/4" drive for the dizzy, while the later 170's used a 5/16" drive.
The DUI dizzy is available in both sizes, but the DSII is only available with a 5/16" drive.
Therefore the DUI will work, while the DSII may or may not (depending on drive size).

I even pulled the original numbers correct 200 out of my car and used a different 200 to build up.

I look at it this way. If for some reason you sell the car, you'll end up with more money putting the 170 back into the car and selling the engine seperately. At least, that's how I think. Building a 200 is such a small market that my car would likely have better appeal with the original 200 than a built up 200. Then I could sell the built 200 here.

I may be wrong, but it works in my mind. Then again, I don't have any plans to ever sell the car.

Thanks for the replies, I guess I wil be shopping around for a 200 over this break, and with a different motor i don't have to worry about blowing the engine if i try to turbo it:) Mike, I'll be getting in touch with you early Jan for some things that I'll be getting from you.
