i just bought a 64 Falcon wagon,it has a 170 6cyl with a 2 speed auto, that 2 speed is slipping and leaking,i want to put a c-4 that was behind a 302 in it,is it a straight forward swap or do i have to start mixing and matching parts?

Hey!
I also need this info.

My 2 speed is toast
I have a c4 from a vee-eight.
Will it swap in using the old bell housing?
Please help!

You need a six cylinder C4 bellhousing to bolt ahead of your front pump. I think you may also need a dual-drilled block. Can't offer comment on the driveshaft - not sure. There are some slight infernal differences between the six and eight C4s, but they're not detrimental to performance.

Is this a hard topic to answer?
Where do I get a c4 six cyl bellhousing?
The c4 wasnot made in 61.
It appears that my old bellhouseing has the same number of bolts holding it to the tranny as my c4 v8 bell has.
So should my old bell housing work?
What is a dual drilled block?
The block I have is the one i need to use, not some other block.

Surely someone knows how to put a c4 behind a 144.
Or at least can send me in the right direction.

I have been searching all night and all day for links on this site and others.
Anyone have a link for a 144ci auto trans swap to c4?

You will have to use a C-4 bellhousing from a 1965 200 six cylinder. Starting in 1966 the bellhousings were larger, hence the dual bolt pattern engine. If you have a 65 6 cyl C-4, you can use your stock leaf spring trans. mount. If you are using a later C-4 you will have to change your crossmember. The Falcon vendors sell these crossmembers and mounts for the early Falcons. You will have to use a C-4 yoke on the front of your drive shaft. If you change the rear yoke on your rear end to one from a 6 cyl. 65 Falcon, Comet or Mustang that came with a C-4. You can use the stock drive shaft from any 65 V-8 Falcon or any C-4 Falcon of the same year. You will have to modify your shift linkage with later parts to get that extra shift cog. Your stock kick down linkage should work with little if any modifications.

If anyone is interested? I have a 1965 C-4 Transmission. I removed it about 3 years ago. It shifted fine and did not slip, but it took a couple of seconds to go into reverse. Count on it needing a rebuild.
