Actually it is a pretty easy swap if you already have a 3 speed manual trans car. There is a kit out there that sells for about 500.00 that has the adapter, new trans yoke and trans mount. In a 66 I do not think you will have to modify the shifter opening. We did on the 67, shifter hit the edge of the opening. The T5 bolts to an adapter that bolts to the original 3 speed bellhousing. No changes to the clutch or clutch linkage needed. The trans is behind all that. The driveshaft from a C4 automatic car does not need any mods if you have one floating around, in fact you will not need the trans yoke with the C4 driveshaft. Jessica's C4 driveshaft slid into the T5 and away she went. A manual driveshaft needs modification, shortening or lengthening, I am not sure which and the new trans yoke. If you start with an automatic car then you will need the stock clutch linkage, pedal and bell housing. We started with a C4 automatic and had to find all the stock clutch stuff. If you have it apart to put the T5 in then do yourself a huge favor and have the flywheel resurfaced and put a new clutch in. Also rebuild the clutch linkage to make it operate nice. We found an old Hurst shifter that looked very period and cut it and drilled holes to match the T5 shifter nub. It looks so stock Jessica has to tell people that it is a 5 speed. We found the transmission in an 86 Thunderbird super coupe and paid 160.00 for it tax and all. I think most everone walked by the Thunderbird thinking that it was an automatic. It was the only T5 left in the junkyard. We pulled it out and shifted into each gear and spun the input shaft, everything felt good. We never opened it up, just put in some new lube and threw it in the car. I would not worry to much about finding an 8 cyl trans. The 200s do not put out that much power unless it has really been modified. The T5 has held up great in Jetts Pony and made it a really fun car to drive.
Hope this helps
