HI all
Well after 2yrs of waiting and working part time on it .. I got it started today.. :) New motor... (started right up).
But it had a bad knock in it
But its minor I used the 61 170 oil pan on the 200 and the crank is hitting the pan I can feel it...
Can I remove the pan without pulling the crossmember or the motor?? The cross menber is behind the deep part of the pan and Its about 1" below the shallow part of the pan??
Can I just masage the pan a little with/out taking it off??? Like putting a clamp over the pan and squize it a little.from the side making a belly in the bottom.
Pull the pan and masage just where its hitting?? cause I don't realy know if it hitting the sides as well.
Thanks Tim

I dont know the answer to your question, but if I went through all that time and effort to put a car together I wouldnt want to mickey mouse it at the last minute. anyway good luck with it.

It would be worth it to pull the oil pan IMHO. I agree with Mav250. I have to take it off and at least look at the inside of the pan and see where it is hitting. You may then decide to bolt it back up and try it, but you may not have to do that much to get out the distortion. A new pan ain't cheap...mine was just bent a little on one edge---let me just say a little pressure in the right way can do a lot of good and a little in the wrong way can do a lot of bad. There are folks who can straighten that pan for you...I think it was JackFish who had gotten his pan straightened IIRC.

I had this happen on the 200 when I put it in my car. could see where the crank was hitting so just tacked on a couple nuts and used a slide hammer to pull the pan out (I had to drive back to school the next day and didn't have time to pull the motor.
