  • I picked up a 1978 200 a while ago, for no other purpose other than I was bored and needed a road-trip to New Jersey.
  • The head has been cleaned and no cracks found. It is sitting on a shelf, partially pocket ported ... (for sale soon)
  • The block has not been inspected yet. It is sitting on an engine stand. Assume it's good and can be bored.
  • Also assume it's going in my 65 Mustang Coupe. My HP goal is... about 400ish
  • Reply with your suggestions/ideas on the Carb/EFI, Ignition, Pistons, Cam, AL Head?, Tranny, Reardiff, Exhaust, Turbo???
  • Upvote the replies you like, downvote the ones you don't (up/down arrows on the right of the replies).
  • Let's have some fun with this!
As 'decisions' are made, they'll be posted here, subject to change.

Oh, I saw the "core selected" on the crd but it was reground, no?
"...tinker a bit with their profiles to get it to fit..."
The iron cam cores come with unfinished lobes large enough to grind most of the common profiles.
In this case we are asking for relatively large lobes and having the lobe pattern spread to a wide 114 degree separation angle.
This put the lobes at the outside edge of the existing unfinished lobes so they had to look at which lobes would satisfy our given specs and still fit within the core lobes.

discernment often takes the one resource none of us can get more of: time.

As a side note I found out that the Melling M-65C oil pump has a 5/16 of an inch taller neck lenght over the M-65B both can be used in 170 & 200 sixes (years 1965 to 1983) both are standard pressure & volume oil pumps. Would that 5/16 inch taller neck lenght be enough to help clear the ARP Main Studs?

I test fit the pump I have, which is an aluminum bodied pump - and it came close - but cleared. I will get the PN and picture of the pump I have posted.

Gotta read more than just the entry.

Is there a design that was submitted to the manufacturer or a spec sheet? Id like to give it a shot, have most other things lined up at the moment
There is a Pauter tab on this spreadsheet:

If you talk to them, see what pricing for 12 would be.
