i went to a car show/flea market this weekend (even entered my falcon), and found this carb that looks like the weber carbs everyone uses. I paid 30 canadian for it, new rebuild, never used, and has no numbers or anything on it. anyone have an idea what it is??

looks like a holley/weber 32/36 progressive 2bbl. Distinct oval opening at the top, 2 holes. yep, looks like a 32/36.

There are air cleaners built especially to fit that carb and the 38/38 with which it shares a general form.

Check the following linked page for some examples.

Air Cleaners for Weber Carburetors, 32/36 DGV DGES/AS and 38 mm Series

Note that there are two different types of 32/36 carb. Think of them as left handed and right handed. The pictures on the page of the carb tops should help you to see which kind you have. (You'll see what I mean when you open the page.)

I've heard stories of people using the center of an original 32/36 air cleaner and cutting it to be the same outter diameter as a 4bbl then using any air cleaner they like. I've also heard the same story but by making an adapter out of flat plate. The only downside that I've heard is that you need to find a way to build a central attachment point. Most 2bbl/4bbl air cleaners have a center pin, the 32/36 does not.

Youve got a Ford DFAV (football-shaped air cleaner hole).

Look at the bottom of this thread for some pics and explanation of how I modded a later Ford base to an early Ford lid. The hardest part (after finding the base in a junkyard) was making up the hold-down bridge thingy.
