Throttle cable

I'm using a gas pedal off a 86 Mustang and the throttle cable off an 82 F-150 300-6.

I used a lokar, but kept a stock looking gas pedal from a 65 V-8 mustang.

Don't pay too much attention to the ugly set up in the 2nd picture, that was makeshift while I worked out some spring tension issues with returning the pedal.

I thought about bending/reworking my current throttle assembly to look something like yours. My question is how does mounting the cable bracket to the motor work for you. My concern is that you may get some unwanted throttle movement as the engine torques.

As long as both ends of the cable are attatched firmly, bending or flexing the cable won't make it move. There should be a couple of inches of slack in the installation to deal with engine movement. Let me put it this way: when you ride a motorcycle and hit a bump, the brakes don't engage. It's the same principle. If one end of the cable is a little loose, then it might bind and catch. So make a sturdy bracket.

It's not to obvious in the pictures, but I made a bracket that attached to the coil mounting holes on the block for my first hard point. The valve cover mount makes the second hard point. So the cable is completely attached to the block so movement of the block will not effect the carb. Remember, there is flex is the system. The cable has a sheth which not only protects the cable but allows for you to build in flex to the system. So long as both sides are firmly attached and there is some extra in the cable system, you will be fine.
Good luck bending that rod. The V-8 one seems an all around better way to do it. I tried bending the rod and it will take a lot of elbow grease and vices and heat to do it.

I used the pedal and cable from a '71 Maverick on the '61 Comet. It fit great with a few tweaks. I've used it with a YF 1bbl and a H/W 5200. I used the original coil and carb fastener bracket .
The cable bracket is the red one reaching over the VC.
