Timing Chain

Was wandering if it was bad if the timing chain had about as much slack as say a bycicle chain? If so what would cause it and why. Tearing the bottom end outta the mustang with a 200 to change all the bearings and noticed the chain was droopy. Thought it was broke but it aint. Please let me kow thnx.

It's probably just worn out, replace it. Replacement timing sets are cheap, I would suggest springing for a dual chain set-up from classicinlines.

8) all timing chains stretch over the years due to the stress it has to endure. also timing gear wear which also allows slack in the timing chain. it is time to replace the chain and gears in your engine. i also recommend highly using the roller chain from classicinlines.

change it while you have the bottom end torn apart. timing chains stretch and the gears wear. the more slack in the chain,, the more it affects your cam timing(cam timing retards as the chain and gears wear) which in turn affects performance. i also recommend the double row chain from C.I. especially if you run your motor hard or run a performance cam or a higher rate valve spring.
