Ok so I was told that I need to find out which way to turn the distributor when timing...I have a 1965 Ford Mustang, Straight 6, 200, 1 barrel carb, etc etc. If you need any other info let me know. So with that do you know which way I need to turn the distributor? Any help would be much appreciated, thanks alot.

Things to remember....
Connect to #1 plug wire.
If you have points check them with a dwell meter.
Disconnect and plug vac line (if it has one).
Make sure idle is where it is supposed to be, check with tach.
Clean timing indicator and mark. It can be hard to make out the numbers on it, they are 0, 3, 6, 10, 14.

Ok guys, here is a picture of the engine right now, is it possible for you guys to point out where these things are located or tell me?

Are you having some specific problem you are trying to fix by changing the timing? Its good you are asking questions but I want to make sure we are not going to get you into something you dont fully understand. Looks like you have a points dizzy, may even be a LoadOmattic. Its good to check the timing but there could be many other issues. Do you have a dewll/tach meter? Do you have a shop manual of some sort?

Answers to your questions:

Plugs are front to back, so #1 is closest to the fan.

The timing mark is that little saw tooth tab that you can see right under the screw on the hose clamp for the lower radiator hose in your picture.

The vac line goes to that disk thing sticking out of the side of the dizzy pointing at the fuel pump.

On the crankshaft pulley, there is a little notch at TDC that when you are timing should line up with the scale on the timing indicator tab. I usually clean off the grime on the notch and on the timing tab and put some liquid paper (or white paint) on the notch. I also will mark the scale at the point I want to time it to if timing to stock specifications.

You have sharp eyes.

It's backwards. The other hose goes into through the spacer and into the heater core.

It might make a difference in how well the heater works, maybe not. The heater core doesn't care which direction water flows through it.
