Timing

Allow me to throw my 2cents in. Rather than using a timing light, why not hook up a vac gage and then adj your dizzy to get the highest reading. Should be a faster idle too.

Pertronix is a good system and reliable too! Have you gapped your plugs out farther. to maybe .050-.055"?

The Pertronix alone doesn't warrant opening the plugs...but if you upgraded the coil too...then you will want to take advantage of the bigger kernal of flame you'll get with this setup.

The bigger kernal is achieved when you open the plug gap. This provides more complete combustion and will make your engine run smoother too, with less fouling.

With the Pertronix ignition and your stock coil, you are getting the same spark but in a much better controlled delivery.

If you do upgrade your coil, you could take advantage of the larger gap in plugs and thus improve your combustion. If you have a bigger spark, you get a more full detonation and better utilization of gas, air and chances are good to get complete combustion. A smaller spark does it well enough. The difference you get between small and large spark could make a real difference in your starting as well as performance.

You are really not taking advantage of the electronic ignition without the bigger coil, Pertronix or any other reputable brand.
