ok i need a little help my brain is tired from too much 3rd shift but witch way would advance be, closer to 0 degrees btdc or further away?

0* is TDC not btdc or atdc . Moving timing away from 0* and before top dead center [BTDC] advances the spark to happen before TDC . To illustrate - 5* btdc is a fairly common timing setting which is slightly advanced , 10* btdc is even more advanced .

You move the Dist against rotation to advance ( counterclockwise ) with to retard ( clockwise )
