Here goes,
I got the motor running much better today. Timing was off, but not the 180 out that some thought.
1. Repair intake manifold gasket leak (yes, I have an Aussie head). I was told I might get away way with applying a thin coat of black RTV to my existing gasket as a temp fix. Another source said I can make a temp gasket. Any suggestions on a gasket material????
2. Remove my weber carb adapter, drill a hole and tap it so I can install a nipple(giggle, giggle, I can't type that with out a smile on my face) for the PVC hose. (I mounted a vise to my drill press, so I should be ok with this one.) Currently, the PVC hose is connected to the base of my air cleaner and it is not creating enough of a vacuum to stabilize the pressure in the valve cover.
3. Replace my starter. (Piece of cake!)
4. Install my thermostat. (Motor runs like a dog when it's cold) I left the thermostat out while I was breaking in my new cam.
I would like to get all this stuff done by Sunday afternoon.
Right now the car is sitting at the alignment shop. On the lighter side.....
When the technician was trying to drive the car up on to the alignment rack, he kind of got into the gas pedal a little too much and did a smokey burn out right in front of me. He looked like he really felt bad about it and said he was sorry about doing that on my new tires. I just laughed and said I was glad to see that the car was able to do that. Once I get this thing figure out and I can fine tune my carb and motor, I think I'll be doing quite a few burn outs of my own.
