I pulled the little 144 engine out of my 60 Comet a few weeks back and the tranny as one whole unit. (My first engine pull). Got the engine sent off to the machine shop and decided to check the condition of the tranny and fluid. When I pulled the top cover plate on the tranny, there was maybe 1/2 inch of fluid sitting in the bottom. The gears all looked great but I was concerned by the low fluid level. My main question is, do you think the fluid spilt out when I pulled the engine/tranny? It was a few weeks ago and I did in a grassy area and didn't notice any spilt fluid at the time. Or is that unlikely and it's got a seal leak? I only drove the car once before pulling the engine and it shifted great. I only had the car about a week before pulling the engine/tranny and didn't see any obvious tranny leak. Thanks for your input.
