Tranny trouble.

You fix one thing, and find 5 new things wrong.
I'm having intermittent tranny trouble.
Sometimes, in reverse, i get this horrible grinding noise.
And Other times, driving along, and when I slow down (downshift to 1st) I get a similar grinding noise.
It doesn't happen all the time. Just sometimes.
My fluid good.
New filter and gasket are on the way to be safe.
But anything I should know or be looking for?

It's a '64 Ford Custom, running a 223, I'm not sure of the exact tranny, except that it's a 3spd auto (cruise-o-matic)

It's been quite a while since I've worked on a Cruis-O-Matic but while you have the pan down you might want to look for a broken (or maybe just out of adjustment) band. I think reverse and first use a common one.
