tri power, power gain?

how much of a power gain would i get if i put a late model tri power stock comp, valves, onto a stock 65 200 with a slightly hotter cam and adapted holley 500 primary and glass bowl secondaries, anyone know how much flow is gained?

Hey 64 200 ranchero
As I understand a stock 200 is asking for 120 to 150 cfm depending on the modifications.
You are considering a 500 cfm.
I don’t see any reason it wont work but your mpg will be very low even if you were to jet it down.

I’m sure someone else will be better able to explain the down side…
Bigger is not always better.. :?
Good Luck

holley 500 primary, holley glass bowl secondarys, im also running a hotter cam, not sure what cam as it came with the engine. i am assuming that the block has not been zero decked, my current head is a stock 65 200 head

I think the 500 is capable of delivering more than the engine can suck.
Two more carbs would gain nothing without major engine mods.

I'm not sure about 3-500s, but 3-1v 1100s worked great. Not sure what you'd gain. Most people aren't running beyond 1 500 cfm carb. I believe someone ran a direct mount 2-2v Holley set up some time ago, but can't remember exactly.

Just think 3 500s will be wicked overkill.

i wanted to do a setup like powerbands commet, that thing is awsome, i plan on running one holley 500 rejeted leaner and 2 glass bowl holleys or 2 carter yf's with fatter jets, im running a hotter cam, not sure which one it came in the engine when i bought it, has a loppy sound

Problem you'll have with multi carbs of different flows is evening out the distribution. The tuning and syncing of the carbs will be a very large challenge.

I think, even with a very aggressive cam, 3 -1v carbs will supply all that the engine needs.

Not trying to stifle innovation as we love that stuff around here, but concerned you won't be happy with the end result. Just remember, the 200 will only pull so much air. Making the straw bigger beyond that point will only result in increased fuel consumption and likely decreased performance.

I plan on getting to the Dyno to see were I'm at.. I know that once was behind a 63 with a built 302 and from the light on I was right with him.. He was pretty suprised that my 6 was keeping up with him.. but I'm interested in what my power numbers are when I dyno..

Running 34 ICH/ICT webers.. Those carbs do not like heat .. added heat shield under each carb to eliminate the fuel boiling issues.. The ceramic coating of the headers should help as well to keep the heat down.

Well I did not enter the poll. Did not want to influence your decision…
But
Those 1100 are the best in their class in my view…

Uhhhh wait a minute…
Did I just enter the poll by proxy..

ok i have 2 autolite 1100's, should i run thoses or get some carter yf's, poll time

> Two decent running 1100's would make for reasonably tunable Outer-Progressive carbs. A YF as center could complete the system.

> I ran a 350 CFM Holley 2300 - 7448 on a mild 170 with Hi-Commpression head. Ran great but was eye-watering rich at light throttle.

> The Comet 250/Tri-power currently uses two "smaller" 1904's outboard and a "larger" 1904 center. The pics of the 2300 as center carb were during initial tuning with outer carbs blocked off. The 350 CFM 7448 version was used and worked so well I got a 500 CFM version before I got busy with 1904's . The single big Holley worked almost as well as the three 1Bbl's but the 3X1 Offy setup has short runners and max CFM at linkage-tunable , most useful powerband.

> No-Way three 2300 Holleys are gonna fit on the Log or Offy'. I vote for three 2X1 adapters on top of the Offy 3X1 with synchronous H/W 5200-progressives's. Tuning could be un-ending fun.... 8)

Tuning and bonnet clearance...

I ran with 3 1100s when I was using the Offy. Nice solid set up, minimal tuning hassle. I used an 1100 for an automatic for the center, and modified the outers by removing the choke mechanisms.

i have a hotter cam than stock, im going to cc the the head and mill it down to get 9 1/2 maybe 10 if possible, i was going to buy your old head but found this deal that i couldnt let go, i bought hot rod bobs tri head, whats weird about it is that it does'nt have hardened seats and its a late model

FAAARgo...north dakota, awesome deal, I don't blame you!!!! I'm going to cut the carb pad off the log head you wanted and fit a 2bbl onto it. Ryan is getting the other '75 head, it's ready for a 2bbl conversion, since the carb pad has been milled off.

You're car is pretty good as it is, but 10 more degrees of duration and higher compression sounds good and it'll be a beast. Come by and check out the carbs we'll haggle then, I can swing by school too.

i was thinking about getting a new cam anyway, but i want to see how it runs with this one, i have a 69 250 head with a small crack if you are looking for some more projects, ill bring my new crossflow head so you can check it out, what days are you off man, lets get another wrenchfest together
