tripower tuning

Hi everyone,
I have the offy intake and 34ICH webers on a progressive linkage. What carb setup seems to work the best? What size of jets are you using? Do the air corrector jets need to be changed? Just got my new engine fired up for the first time yesterday

I just starting to get my Offy tri-power figured out too. My set up is a little different; the middle carb is off a '69 170 and the end carbs are Weber 34 ICTs. The ICT are similar to the ICH but do not have a power circuit. Anyway, I just installed an Edelbrock A/F meter to do my tuning. I HIGHLY recommend you install an A/F too. I started-up the car to break in the cam, etc. with the YF that came with the 250 head I installed. I found out that the carb was running way, way too lean, right off the 15:1 scale  I bought the A/F from Summit and the price was reasonable, I would have liked a wide band but they cost around $350 for the ones I found

The first thing I am going to buy is A/F guage. My engine ran real lean during cam the cam breakin and was spitting a little bit around 3000 rpm. I have an extra set of jets arriving today. How do you guys have your idle setup? all three sincronized or just the center and the outer two closed completly? I have idle cut off selenoids on all three carbs, should I replace the outer ones with regular jet holders? This engine sounds mean as hell with just a header!

Don't think anyone answered my question about the idle setup. What seems to work the best: using all three carbs for the idle or just the center one. Right now I just using the center carb. I am sure using all three would be more of a pain to adjust, but would the engine be more responsive off idle and have a better idle quality?

Thanks,
Brian

Try setting it up as if you were working on a three-barrel carb. The center carb is used for general idle and running. The two outer carbs are your extra two barrels. I have found that mine runs best with the idle circuit shut down on the two outer carbs. In some cases you may open them up maybe 1/2 turn. I even went as far as disconnecting the accelerator pumps on the two outer carbs. I'm running old one barrel Holley carbs. If I were to do this again I think I would try using some newer Webbers. Only for the reason I think they maybe easier to get parts for. Once adjusted mine have ran great. Now this said. My next project will use a Holley 5200 two barrel. More tuning options.

Thanks guys I will give that a try.
I am running new 34ICH's and it seems to be stumbling off idle. Probably need to increase my idle jet.

Stumbling off idle can also be related to the dizzy. Make sure the intial is set "correctly", too low an initial can also cause a stumble. Then make sure the dwell (if you are running points) is correct. And finally make sure the correct voltage is at the coil.

As for carb causes to the stumble check the transition circuit and make sure it is clean. You can also adjust the accelerator pump to cover up the stumble too.
