turbo manifold in construction!!! (link to pics)

well I spent the other day cutting and grinding flanges (then ran out of oxy) but the head flanges are done (I made one for each port) the log was cut and ready that day too. so today I dug out the mig (curse the old man burying it for winter) and started welding. the head flanges are all welded on and waiting for it to cool right now so I can weld on the ends of the log. should have the "collector" on today and clean it all up. my turbo flange isn't finished yet but I can weld it on last anyway. once I finish all the welding I will take it to the shop at school and mill each port and clean up the mating surfaces.

pics will be coming this evening when I finish all the welding and cleanup. you guys are gonna drool over this.

it is pretty much the same size and shape as a stock manifold. it is made fomr 3/8" and .120" wall steel.

That should work just fine! We normally think in terms of tuned length tubing for exhaust manifolds, but something like that suqare log should work well for a turbo.

well the 2.3L I had used a log and they worked just fine. this is just my first one for now. the key thing is the short runner length which will help with spoolup. I wish I could get the turbo mounted in the car for some pics but where it will sit makes it look like a perfect fit (have a nice large cone to go on it that sits right behind the battery) my next one will prob be a nicer log style with some curve to it and after that I think I will do a tuned length style.

sorry took them in high res for good quality since I am away from my PC and have to use the net to get them to mine. I will be home sunday and will be able to resize then (plus post more pics)

i hate to tell ya this but that log will never work.

there ain't none of them there holes for the air to pass the the dad gum head.

i would fix that before you put it on.

ya might be right, you might jsut want to open up every other one that way (maybe the evens) that way you can a nice happy medium.

also nice work

Looks great!!!! I think that will work just fine. I really dont see anything wrong with it for moderate performance levels. Its not like your building a ProMod here, just a streeet cruiser with some extra kick.

hey I might be out by herrin tomorrow afternoon. if I am I might try swinging by. hey do you have a loose turbine? I need to to get a drill pattern from on my last flange to make. if not no biggie.

I'm kinda new to this turbo stuff. What's the Bakers Choice Creamy Frosting for?

In case the fabricator has the munchies.

It looks great! I'm going to use my stock manifold (ported) with a "J" pipe for now, but your solution looks good.

yeah I was thinking today that with the ford bolt flange stle compressor and how close the carb is that I will just fabe a pipe that fits real close so I just have to use a single hose connection on it. yeah my oil pressure is starting to go I think....hoping the old 170 holds together for another 1500 or so miles until school is over (needs to last two trips home @ 250 miles each way) soon as I get home from finals the 200 is going in...
