Vac line tree on stat housing

What is the point of that vac line tree that goes inside the stat housing. I am able to blow though it when engine is hot or cold. Whats the point of it? Can I just run my vac line from the carb base to the dizzy and replace it with a plug?

That's the ported vacuum switch. When properly functioning, it allows vacuum to flow through only after the engine comes up to temp. You can run direct the distributor and replace the switch with a plug.
