valve cover gaskets

what is the best valve cover gasket to have using a alum.valve cover...from the little puddles i was leaving..i thought it was the rear main leaking...look at it on a hoist...leaking on the back of the valve cover.....

8) i prefer a rubber gasket as opposed to the cork ones. fel pro is good, mr gasket is good.

If you still have a leaker, purchase 2 felpro cork gaskets. Glue them together with contact cement & then use contact cement to bond them to the valve cover.

This will take care of the leak problem & also will raise the valve cover to prevent interference issues. Bill

Ponyrider, i dissagree, use contact cement on 6 or 7 areas so the rubber gasket is in the sealing area of the valve cover & does not move during installation. Bill

Did this when I first got my valve cover a few years back. Worked great!

Just don't use cement on the rubber gasket

8) i use 3M weather strip adhesive to glue the gaskets to the valve cover, rubber or cork, and have never had a leak.

Fel-pro does not recommend using cement when installing their rubber gasket. I know I tried doing it with glue the 1st time and it leaked. The way I install the valve cover without glue is to put the VC bolts into the VC while on the workbench. Put the rubber gasket over the bolts, and there is enough tension there to hold the gasket and the bolts in place while you put the VC on the head. Start tall the bolts, and check with your fingertips as you tighten to be sure the gasket is in place. Works like a charm for me.
