Valve Stem Seals

Can anyone post a picture of what the valve stem seals are supposed to look like installed?

I thought I got mine in right, but i've got a lot of smoke on startup and after a long idle so I am pretty sure they are leaking.

Perhaps I ended up with the wrong ones or something, but if I could verfiy I didnt put them in retarded that would help.

Thanks.

The stock seals are mushroom-looking caps that simply slide over the valve stem. The most common problem is getting the wrong seal. The stock valve stem is 5/16", but is often mixed with 11/32" seals (stock Ford V8).

Also, new valve seals, even the correct size, will not correct oil burning thru a worn valve guide, if you haven't repaired them.

Also, the ones I got were less mushroom shaped and more like cylindrical cups that went in upside down.

are there any other seal we can use? I like the valve seals on the 2.3L..
I'm shure theres got to be something...

I think the mushrooms are better than GM's O-ring. But I want better performace in this area.

You should be able to get those teflon (positive) seals

5/16" = 8mm

PC valve seals, can get them from Napa ( classic inlines also ), and most Napa's can also machine the heads for them ( part of the guide is removed ) otherwise you can buy the cutters for them, for around $50.
