I just received this email:

There is great news to report! I am now working directly with the foundry. I visited the foundry in November and we were able to come to an agreement that is already showing results. This weekend I received the first sample casting that I have already taken to my machinist for validation. We will be able to confirm the castings in about two weeks at which time we can order castings from the foundry. The delivery date will not be established until then.

When we get the castings, my machinist will begin the required machine work and we will have the machine shop start assembly right away.

My plan is still to contact everyone from the original waiting list to give them the first chance to get one of the heads. Then, I'll make them available through the website. I will pre-sell when the head castings are nearly complete. There will still be some time required to have the machining and assembly done. I need to do this to pay for them when they are made.

Thanks for your patience,

Matt

Outstanding! I’m not on the list but I’ve been watching progress on this for quite some time. This is exciting news!I’m looking forward to being able to order one at some point.

Will there be a matching intake manifold?
"Work is in progress to begin casting new heads as of January 2025! This is a listing for information only regarding the alloy cylinder head. The price for this package will be in the $2500 range, plus shipping. The final price will be known after production starts.

The price includes: Assembled aluminum cylinder head (dual springs, retainers, and viton seals), alloy intake manifold, and carb adaptor. Also includes stainless steel hardware for installing the manifold. Custom porting or other machine work is available at additional cost. If chosen, this will lengthen the delivery time.

More info:
Heads will have 1.84" intake valves and 1.50" exhaust valves. 1.5 and 1.6 ratio rocker assemblies are available, but not included. Weber 2V, Holley/Autolite 2V, and Holley/Autolite 4V adapters will be available, and your choice is included. ARP stud kits are available at an additional cost and are required for installation."

Last time the heads were available the valves were too short to accommodate the valve springs for a high performance 200 six.
We had to order custom length valves from Manley.
Has this problem been addressed?

He doesn't state a valve length so it would be good to ask Matt but I recall that issue mentioned.

What valve springs come with it? With the wide range of cams, there has to be different spring pressures needed. One spring can’t do it all 🤔

It'd make sense to offer valvetrain options along with an intake with carb/EFI mounting options.

The intake manifold comes with a carb adapter and also has the bosses for fuel injectors.
VI also carries the full line of Yella Terra rocker arm assemblies.

If the head comes with the short valves as the last series of heads did, the installed valve spring height is around 1.500" which limits the valve springs that will fit the head.
The retainer height needs to be at least 1.700" to use a wide range of available valve springs.
For very high rpm performance, the installed valve spring height should be closer to 1.800"

Hello. I'm new here, but my 68 Convertible base is not. I put a T5 behind it last year, but the gear ratios were set up for an 8, which I was beginning to research, but putting some performance into the 6, like this new head, might be a better way to go. Then I probably wouldn't have to worry about changing the gear ratios. Put me on the list as a potential customer.

I hope to have this info soon. I messaged him.

Contact Matt at Vintage inlines please to see if you can be added to the list. Last I've heard he wasn't adding anymore as he had a long list but worth a try.

I'm curious to see how many folks that are on the list are actually going to make the purchase. The long list may trim down quickly. The way I read the email, a deposit will be required to order because of Matt's up-front costs. That seems fair and will likely get them into people's hands sooner.

That is a good point. I suspect over the last while some from the list have moved on to other pursuits or took other avenues (Oz heads, Argentina heads, turbo's, superchargers, V8's, etc...)
