What carb do I have?

My single barrel Motorcraft carb doesn't match up to any in my shop manual or the rebuild kit I just bought. What the..? I just expected it was a 1100.

Ever since I got the car back from the painters, it stalls when I hit the pedal unless I very lightly feather it. It ran perfect when I drove it there. I'm told I need to change the accelerator pump.

HI
Thats what it sounds like... Pull the air cleanner off and look inside the carb and move the linkage and see if it squarts gas down the carb.. (with out the motor running).... if it doesn't its bad...
Heres a link to a guys site click on engine he shows a couple of pic of the carbs he has used and the fab work maybe one of this is your carb..

Albert's car sure is nice. Well, after looking at his carb pics, mine looks like the one he list as a Holley 1946. Mine says MOTORCRAFT on it though.?
I'll try the squirt trick tonight.

Well, I got one squirt, then nothing else. Is that correct? I assume it should have kept squirting until the bowl was empty. Keep in mind, if it even makes a diiference, I have an electric fuel pump.

There should be enough fuel in the bowl to make it squart atleast a couple of times (once for each time you move the linkage..). Those things can go at anytime.

Thanks Tim for the help, I guess I'll change it. Can I get to the pump wiothout rebuilding the entire carb?

I'm at home and don't have the link to that mustang page so I'm not sure what the carb looks like to tell you if you need to crack it open to change it.. Some pumps are located on the out side of the carbs... Thou you should be able to do a pump with out doing the whole carb unless the gaskets are all shot... Tho you may have to buy a whole rebuild kit inorder to get the pump..

I had already checked the bowl prior to this thread. All is well.

I bought the whole carb kit ($14) just to get the pump, but I still don't want to rebuild the entire carb. It runs super and doesn't leak at all. If I can just figure out where the pump is, I'll change it, be sure not to touch any other settings, and all should be well.

What carb is it? If it's a 1946 you will probably have to remove and disassemble it because the pump is connected in such a way that you have to twist the parts around to get the linkage apart and back together again. If it squirts it's working, however, and I would check those other things before pulling things apart. Your kit should have a new inlet valve, try putting that on. And a filter is what, $5?

The pump is on the inside there should be a rod comming off the linkage that works the pump. the pump looks like a plunger with a spring on it with a felt or leather end about 1/2" around and a 1/4 thick or so.....

Thanks guys, I'll tackle it this weekend. The pump works fine. I disconnected the hose at the carb and it squirt just fine... all over my new paint.
