This six cil is on my 67 Mustang.Has a red valve cover.code is:D8DE 6015DA.Also would like to know, where is the serial number located.Thank's guys.

It's a 1978 block. How many bolts are securing the water pump - three or four?

Howdy TS Martin:

The stock OEM engine for a 1968 Mustang is either a 170 or a 200 ci. The correct casting code for a '68 Mustangs will likely be a C6, or C8. Is this the original engine? IF so, recheck the casting marks. Sometimes they're hard to read. The D8DE code is a 1978. "D" represents the decade of the seventies, "8" represents the year, D8 = 1978.

The serial number is the VIN # and it is posted on a tag on the driver's side door frame.

The six cylinder engine options for the 1978 model year were a 170, id by three freeze plugs under the exhaust manifold, a 200, (Most likely) id by five freeze plugs under the exhaust, or a 250, id by 4 bolts holding the water pump to the block and a starter mounted below the oil pan gasket line.

Thanks guys.Don't know if this is the OE motor,I bought it as is.Just took a better look, has five freeze plugs.water pump looks like four bolts(but one of those I can barely see),starter is below the oil pan gasket. One clue to this motor:it has a single barrel carb, but still has dented the hood with the air filter bolt.Is it suposed to be that close? The code is on both sides,on the drivers side is very clear D8DE.Has a pointless ignition, don,t know if it's original but it looks like it is.I need to locate the serial # on the block(I'm exporting the car and block # will be inspected at destination),I hope it has numbers or I'm scrued.Thank's.

Howdy Back:

It is sounding like a '78 250 engine, Which is not stock for a '67.

One more check- measure the block height from the oil pan line to the head gasket line. A 250 will measure 10 1/16th". A 200 will measure
8 1/16th".

Hey Martin, the car is being sent from LA to Argentina, right?

Is there an engine number listed on the title? Or just the VIN?

I would conside buying some Sears letter and number stamps in the 3/8" height and stamping any correct-seeming number onto the block.

Wow ! I just measured the block. It has a little over 10 inches.I'm surprised to find its a 250,the seller never mentioned it.I bet he did not know. Now I need to know the correct spark plugs, the gap,and timing advance.Thank's David. And yes addo,I wonder how you knew this car is moving fron LA to Argentina.(We have some goodies for sixes down there.)Sears numbers !!.That was sharp, thank's.Will be looking at some Sears letters and numbers.Wonder what a correct seeming number would be,I have to come up whith something to stamp my block.California title does not have any motor#.Thanks again guys.
