What timing for dui

I have a dui and holley 350 on my 1967 200 with automatic. Stock motor. What are people running for timing? Was told to put it at 18 degrees.

i would start at about 10 degrees initial, and go from there. let the engine tell you what it needs.

I recurve distributors & i need to know the distributor specs.
Yes 18-20 degrees would be correct if the total centrifugal advance in shortened so you don't have too much total. billythedistributorman@live.com

This is what I was given. 0 deg at 1050 19 deg at 2900, vacuum advance at 10 deg. Cam is set for 10 but can be adjusted more or less. (Not sure where the cam is at in the distributor). Initial advance 18+19=37+10vacuum=47. Seems little high but not sure.

Metering block:
60 main jets, idle jet .031" jets under power valve .052"
8.5" power valve

17 degrees initial look fine.
Who did your distributor & metering block mods?

I did not look in my log book.
Everything you have is right on.
With a stock engine how does the engine perform using ported vacuum??
Go with the 17-18 degrees initial & advise.

Runs okay. Seems to be running hotter then I think it should. Has a 160 stat in it. At a light it'll run around 160-165. Then when I take off from the light it'll go up 5-10 degrees and stay there for a while. Runs around 165-180 with the 160 stat in it. Was thinking timing might be too high. Don't know

You can always back off the timing to 15-16 and see the results. Keep the settings which give you the best performance. Bill

Bill let me ask you this;
Today I took the car out for a drive. Air temp was around 65 degrees. Car runs around 160-165 while driving under 55mph. Took it on the highway was doing 70-80 and the car was running around 180-190. Haven't changed timing yet from the 18 you told me set at. Should I change the initial timing or try and change the cam.

If the engine performs good fine. As i said before, see how the performance is @ 16 degrees initial. If you do not loose performance ok otherwise go back to 18.
