after i have my intake head re-furbished i plan to install a pertronix ignitor II system with flame throwerII coil and bolt on an autolite 300cfm 2bbl carb with a 2 to 1 adaptor. im not looking for high perfomance just want my motor to run more sporty instead of like a slug. what will be the outcome of my mods. the engine itself runs good and is in good shape

Go with the Ptrx I. It seems to have fewer failures. I have the Ptx II and it works great. However, the less complex model seems to be much more stable according to the folks here 'bouts.

Others will tell you to skip the Pertronix and go straight to the Duraspark II. If you want to get it up and running ASAP, use the Pertronix. If you want bulletproof, go with DSII.

i now have a 2 1/4 exhaust with a thrush glasspack will that add some better performance along with the mods i previously listed

I resent that, my duraspark swap only took a few days because the distributor was bad :P.

Actually the duraspark swap, like so many other things we do to our cars, is really easy it just seems more complicated. The duraspark as well is a much better distributor then the loado, however if you have the non loado then I guess it would work either way.

Oh and you need to swap distributors anyways if you have a loado since you are going to a two barrel.

Your exhaust might be a little on the big side but who knows, you won't unless you try out a 2 inch so either way those mods will be an improvement. I would also suggest headers if your doing the rest, I mean after all our exhaust manifolds are fairly restrictive.

the Pertronix I is a good solid upgrade. Even though I've gone with the DS2 for ignition, I was happy with the Pertronix. I'm still using the flamethrower after 30k miles without any problems.

From your list, most of your performance gains will be from the ignition. Don't forget to open up the gap on you plugs from stock. With that ignition set up, I believe I ran a .055 gap which had no problems with pinging.

I don't know much about performance gains from 2-1V adaptors.

Distributors don't care what brand coil is used. There's nothing special about them as long as the resistance (measured in Ohms) is what the distributor expects to see.

I wouldn't go with the Ignitor II, myself. I've heard of a lot of problems with them on this board. The Ignitor I seems to be pretty much trouble-free, though.

Do a search: random misfires, rough running, out-and-out failure, all for no reason. Mystery problems. Switching to an Ignitor I or DS2 generally fixed them.
