wheel clearance

im just about to order new rims for my 66 mustang with the 200 I-6. i want it to have a low, road racer look, so i want to get rims and tires that will fill the wheelwells as much as possible. im thinking right now of 16x7's or 16x8's with either 225/50 or 235/50 tires. if im wrong please correct me. but, if anyone has any suggestions for me, please get back to me. later yall

8) i would run the 225/60-16's on the 16x7" rims. they seem to fit the best of the choices you have. mustangs plus has the wheel selection you need to look at.

i just update to 7 x17 with in rear 235/40 tire,s !!
and got room left over !!not hitting any thing and no wheel fender lip removing ore bending !front 215 /45

after looking at your picture the66mustang, it looks like a 235 fills the wheelwell just the right amount i want it to. thanks for the picture man. what would be a good brand of tire to get?

Why do people have larger tires at the rear (235), and smaller at front (215)?

Could someone post a site where I can buy wheels, as I am looking to get some too.

i got also the 215 in front , they are closer to the fender then the 235 in rear ! thats why !

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "closer to the fender". I think I know what the fender is, but we don't use that term here! How do you mean closer, width or height?

it,s closer to the outside , almost hitting the fender outside lip ! the lip that is in the wheel opening , some people are bending it to the inside flat to the fender , got the idee ?

wil take tomorrow some better pic for how realy close the tire is to the fender , ok ?

btw when wanting to buy these wheels ore in a differend size , i got a realy good adres in the US , did got these from him , a ebay seller ,realy good and nice wheels with no damage ore bad balance !
last time i did buy these wheels from him : 4 x 8x6 torqeu trust D ll 45""vintage wheel 500 $ thats is realy cheap for here in holland !!!!

Yeah, I think I understand. So basically unless I make any adjustments to the lip inside the wheel arch I can't have any more than 215 at the front?

Is it safe to put larger tires on the same sized wheel (235 and 215)? I don't know much about wheels, tires, etc.

Have you used any kind of spacer to widen the look? Is that possible?

didnt use spacers , and yes , it is save to have more rubber in rear then in front , thtas why using smaller tire,s in front , for not hitting anything , when using al orginal parts and no modification to the inner wheel case assambely

Yes, and no. Each tire is rated to fit a certain range of wheel widths. You can usually get that info at the manufacturers website or perhaps at Tirerack.com. However, there is more to it that that. How "stretched" a tire has to be to fit a certain size wheel affects ride and steering response. The more a tire is stretched, the stiffer it will be and, to some extent, the "dartier" the steering will be.
On the rear of a road racing car you will want the tire fairly tight, but a little looser in the front to make the steering self-center a little better. So, you might put a 235/40 on an eight inch wheel in back and a 215/50 or 55 on a seven inch wheel in front. The taller relative sidewall of the front tire will make it track a little straighter (alignment is a big factor), but it will look close to the same as the rear when viewed from the side because it will be 55% of 215 compared to 40% of 235.
A good value in High performance tire is the Kuhmo Ecsta 712. Pretty sticky in both wet and dry and really inexpensive. Looks good, too.

ive debated it for a little while, and i think i am going to go with a 225/50/16. i saw a picture of a 66 mustang with them in mustang monthly and it looked really sharp. i dont need anymore suggestion on tire sizes, all i need now is a good brand of tires to buy. which would probably give the best grip and tread life for the dollar? if anyone has any suggestions ill gladly take them. thanks yall
