OOOK, I am in the hunt for a good flywheel and heard about using the 9". THEN I heard someone say that ford 2.3 turbo motors used a 9" flywheel but nothin on whether it had the same crank bolt patterns. Does anyone know whether or not it will work, check these pics out, they look the same to me, but the spacing may be off.
1) 2.3 turbo

2)3.3 flywheel

That would be pretty wicked if it would fit, I would like to look into it. Anyone got the answer? lol

From what I'm seeing, the 3.3L flywheel is thicker, you can tell by the deepness in where the mounting area is and by how the ring gear isn't flush with the face like the others. These flywheels were made with a weird offset on one of the bolts to make sure that they could not be mounted incorrectly. I am not sure if the 2.3 and the 3.3 would share this same exact bolt pattern. The only way to find out is if you can find one of each, but I imagine someone around here has some better information than this.

well if I was at home I could check real quick on it working. the killer will prob be the flywheel diameter (ring gear size) the cheapest and easiest will prob be having a custom flywheel made for the 200. But I think almost for sure tha ta 2.3L has a smaller pilot bearing openings in the flywheel so that will need bored out for the 200 crank which should put the bolt pattern out farther. with the pattern indexed over you should be able to redrill a single pattern flywheel (note most aftermarket flywheels for the 2.3L also have a 2.0 crank pattern as they use the same bell)

but the big killer is the gear on it. if the 2.3L flywheel needs spaced out from teh block then I would have a steel collar made to do it that could be pressed onto the flywheel in a bored out pilot hole.

You've got more issues there than you probably want by mixing flywheels, IMO. 9" flywheels are realtively easy to find. I've got 2 of them sitting on the bottom step in my garage. The pile was 5 high at one point. Only one of the 2 is any good and it's currently spoken for though.
