Will it burn anything up?

i've heard something about burning up a valve or something if you run straight exaust. is this true or should it be fine? thanks

straight pipes?
from what i've heard, yes it can damage the valves... if i remember correctly (and i prolly don't) after you run the engine, and then shut it off, because there is no exhaust being pushed out the pipe it allows cold air into the pipe up to the hot valves, and cold plus hot is bad...
dunno if i got it right, but thinkin with logic, and followin my high-school physics, it sounds right...

oops... just remembered...

with stock manifolds it is bad... if you have headers that provide the correct backpressure, theyn you are good to go
or something like that...

8) at the dragstrip we would cover the exhaust tips(zoomie pipes) to keep dirt out of the pipes. the valves dont care if you run straight exhaust or not. it is an old races tale started because some guy didnt want people to know why he did certain things. like untill nascar made the pratice illegal, the racers would put about 2" of tape around the antiroll bar presumably to keep the bar from getting nicked during a race. in reality they didnt want you to know what bar they were running.

one more question. do you know the one chamber racing muffler in summit made by flowmaster? how do you think that will sound? i'm either gonna do that or straight exaust which one do think is better adn would sound better? thanks

i would have the shop put on the straight pipe first. Run it for awhile to see if you like it . Then if not all they have to do is cut the straight pipe and put in the muffler.
