Sorry to ask a stupid question but what is Mega Squirt? i got a 1994 Fprd F150 with a 4.9 liter 300I6 and of course its EFI i been reading some post but cant figure out what yall mean about mega squirt. thanks for the help

Short answer is it started out as a home brew EFI computer. It sort of kept growing into what it is now. You can buy it as bare circuit boards where you then source all the parts yourself. You can buy it as a complete solder together kit. You can buy it as a complete tested working box. Its fully configurable and programmable from multiple devices. Its all open source so if you know how to do programing you can get the code and write/ modify things yourself. Since its all user driven there are some odd applications supported.

Is the EFI system in your F150 Speed Density or Mass Air Flow? Both systems were installed on the 300CID for that year, depending where you live. One way to tell which system you have is that about 12-inches away from the intake/throttle body area there is an electronic sensor in the intake snorkel. Here is a picture of the sensor I'm talking about:

If you have that sensor, you have a MAF system, if you don't it is a Speed Density, or MAP system. Megasquirt right now only works with a MAP system.

There were no MAF 4.9s in 1994. CA allegedly got MAF in 1995 and the rest of the US in 1996. Every other EFI 4.9 is S/D

You can also purchase a Ford EEC IV to Megasquirt adapter kit

It is a kit so you will need to find someone to assemble it.

Once completed the EEC IV adapter goes into a later cast aluminum Ford EEC IV ECU case and the stock Ford computer harness plugs into it.

On the other end is the plug that goes to the Megasquirt computer.

This basically allows you to keep the stock Ford electronics and mechanical's under the hood but still be able to tune everything with a Megasquirt.
