G'day all.
I think the futura's days are numbered. I'm going to go back to where its at - pre-OHC Falcon Hegemony.
Anyway, I scored this uncut diamond for $750. Basically an unfinished project. 1987 XF EFI with a T5. Supposedly standard, But...
It has a pretty lumpy idle. It backfires on deceleration, hesitates off idle, hunts on an extended idle, and bucks a tiny bit at a 1400rpm/60km/h cruise. All vacuum lines are attatched, all sensor wires look schmicko. New Leads, New Plugs, New Cap, New Coil (put them on myself). No vacuum leaks, I sprayed WD-40 on the intake manifold gaskets, around the rocker cover, no change in idle quality nor blue smoke appearing. I ezy-outed a broken bolt on the EGR and replaced that, compression-tested the cylinders, +/- 3lbs on every pot, around 170lbs across the board. It goes like a wet weekend until about 2000rpm, then sings a V8 eating song till about 5000rpm. (no tacho since its a GL, guesstamating..)
I'm thinking its got a cam in it that the computer doesn't like. Thats the only conclusion I can come to. I bought the car off a mate who wanted to do it up, but didnt want to pay for fuel nor insurance on it. He said its a stock 250 EFI, but he changed the motor in it cos it kept spitting out rods, and its just never run good since.
Anyone got any ideas?
