Hello everyone, I have a 62 chero with a 170. It is a daily driver to both jobs, some of you have read that i have had problems with the carb and all. Well after taking some of ya'lls advise and much looking into it, i'm going to trick it out a bit to help in the looks and running department. The kit for an upgrade at Cliffords looks nice and easy on the wallet, but I wanted to know what ya'll great people thought. Should i stay with the upgrade or try the offy with everything, i'm not exactly sure how the offy works or if i'd be much better just getting carb, adapter, linkage, and filter then later the cover, and extras. I'm sure some of ya'll will love this topic, thanks to everyone. Jake out

forgot to ask also about single and or double exhaust? I have read up on the many topics on this here forum. Is it true that the double rusts quickly due to the more condensation? Since mine is a daily driver could i just get a great single exhuast and just add something to the pipe to make the low mean sounding noise that you get from duals? thanks again jake out

HI JAKE
I have heard of getting a head of a 70 Mavrick 170 head (bigger log and valves) and getting a DII dizzy from a 78 fairmont. But It depends what you want , a little more poop or a bunch.

Howdy Jake:

Questions 1st? What trans? When you say daily driver? Do you mean you rely on this vehicle as you main means of transportation to work/school/grocery store?

What is you long term plan for this vehicle and what is your budget?

A few quick and easy upgrade would be a good electrical/ignition tune up and add a PetroniX ignitor Electronic ignition system. I'm assuming that you have an original block with a C1DE casting # on it. It won't accept the larger holed '65 and later type distributors. That and a Blaster two coil will help your overall performance and be a foundation for what ever else you do.

Next consider a later exhaust manifold. I prefer the '65 to '68 vintage as they are heavier cast, have the 2" outlet as opposed to the 1 3/4" of earlier manifolds, and they use the donut type gasket. That and a 2" exhaust system with a turbo muffler will be a nice upgrade in performance and sound.

Finally an upgrade to a '64 to '66 200 Autolite 1100 one barrel will really make a difference in performance and it is a direct bolt on replacement for your Holley. It will flow 185 CFM compared to 150 CFM from your Holley.

The above recommends shouldn't cost much more than about $300 if you're doing some install yourself. Each could be a project by itself and not have you down for long.

Headers are a great performance option, but are pricy. For a daily driver is is cost effective to have them coated, inside and out, to prevent them from being destroyed by corrosion. Duals have a unique sound. duals and single outlets headers are about equal in performance except at the very top end.

If this doesn't do it for you let me know and we'll talk about your head, I mean your engine's head.

If you're really serious about performance, consider moving up to a late model 200 for your Roo. The extra displacement and torque is a blast in a light '62 Roo.

Adios, David

hay Jake
Go to your imagestation click on the pic you want then rt click on the pic and then depending on what comes up there are two ways it can work depending on your pc. one well have a option of copie location click that the go to your profile here, go to signiture rt click then paste location the other is rt click on the pic then click propteries then highlight the location copie it (with ctrl button and c (c is for copie).) the return to your profile here go to signiture and then paste it with the ctrl button and then v (v is paste)
hope this works for ya
