Hey Guys,
Well after alot of work time and a bit of money, the 200 finally runs. I have a quick question though. My radiator leaks from 1 or two spots , so it currently not installed in the car. My question is, is it same for me to run the engine every now and then for not long periods of time? Im not talking about like even 5 minutes maybe half a minute minute, tops. i have been running it about every other day because it started to get cold, But is this safe to do or what should i do to keep it cool.
Thanks for the help in advance,
Ronny

i know there are added benefits to an aluminum radiator but what are they. Sorry for all the questions im only 15 lol
Thanks Ronny

Oh no worries, I'm not an elder myself. Aside from aluminum being more efficient at dissipating heat, it has a lighter weight to it. Finding a good one will be the most important part. Knowing that your old one was leaking, I would assume a new one of any type will be an upgrade.

do you think it would be better for me to get my old radiator re cored or should i just buy a new one?

In the past I use to most always recore them it was about 1/2 of a new but unless you have a good local rad shop they can end up being more than new ones. Once in a while would have a custom rad built for an engine swap if a stock type won't fit.

Aluminums are nice, but you can get an OEM reproduction with 3 cores vice the 2, and be set for about anything.

I would go new. Recores now are tending to be about 90-150% of new since so few places do them anymore.

8) back in the day it used to be that recoring a radiator was the less expensive way to go. for instance i had the radiator in a 71 pontiac recored and upgraded to a four row radiator for $150, where as a new one would have cost me closer to $250-300. i had my mustangs radiator rodded out for $30, and could have had it recored to a three row for $120, where as a new one would have cost closer to $275. today however you can get a new radiator, three row copper/brass, for less than $200. it costs about the same to recore the radiator these days. buy a new one.
