My 200 CID I6 is doing something I have never seen in a car before. It runs well at start and for about 10 to 15 minutes. Once the motor warms up or gets hot, it starts idling ruff, and acts and sounds like it is missing. Has anyone ever had this problem with this engine. Can someone tell me the Points gap size, and the resistance of the ignitor? Anything else that I could check?

Thanks,

Jon

Definitely need more information.

I will second the other stuff mentioned:

1) Make sure the choke is opening.

2) How old is your plugs, wires, cap and rotor? I had a similiar problem, turned out to be my cap and rotor were worn out.

Can't help you with points. I pulled them out within a week of buying the car and put in a pertronix. Now I'm running Duraspark 2 ignition. I hate points.

The car has a C4 Automatic, and is a stock 6 cyl. Power nothing, and I couldn't begin to tell you how old the Dist, plugs, wires and coil are. I am testing each of these today, as well as the carb settings once again. The car did get a new rotor cap installed on it before I had it towed home from where it started running ruff. I hope this is more info.

I personally think it is your choke. next time it warms up and starts running rough, pull the air cleaner off and see if the choke plate opened up. If not...that's your problem. Sometimes they just stop working. My old carb had that problem.

Ok, I figured it out. The four wires that goto the starter solenoid were poorly hung by the last owner of the car. They were wrapped together with elec. tape, and the whole bundle fell onto the exhaust manifold. When the wires grounded out, they caught fire and melted together. The result was I spliced new wire into the remaining good part at each end and the car cranked up and ran beautifully. I had to retune the Carb a bit, since I made some adjustments trying to fix the problem. Thanks for your help.
