223 rockers

My '63 223 has self adjusting rocker assembly with these odd toco bell hat looking spring loaded, well garbage anyway...can this rocker assembly be replaced with something more conventional ??

Yes, you can but the cam that goes with the rockers is ground with no clearance ramps to take up the valve lash. The weird rockers serve the same purpose as hydraulic lifters. Relplacing the weird rockers cause the same problem as when you replace hydraulic lifters with solid lifters. Valve noise. Ford was unwilling to do the job right and use hydraulic lifters on an engine that was reaching the end of its production run. If you make the change you will have to balance the clearance between valve burning tightness and noisy looseness. Good luck.
