223 won't stay running. Help please!

Hey guys! My 60 model 223 in my 52 F1 is giving me fits. It was running great a few days ago. On the way to the gas station for fuel it ran out. Now it will only run with the choke more than 1/2 open for maybe a minute. Plenty of fuel coming to the carb. Holley 1904 carb, loadacrapic distributor. When I try to give more gas, it bogs down, sputters, and dies. It will fire right back up with full chocke and repeat the process. Any ideas on what to check or do??

Start with the fuel filter. Since it ran dry any and all debris was pulled into the system.

I’d pull apart the carb and give it a once over. Sounds like somethings plugging a main jet if you’ve got good fuel flow

Nope. I am replacing the carb this weekend in hopes that fixes it.

I replaced the carb with a new Amazon model. Starts great, idles great. Go to drive up the road and it dies. Starts back with full throttle, dies again. I AM SO FRUSTRATED!!!

Do you have the correct type of fuel hose running into the fuel pump? Sounds like the hose is collapsing when the pump is drawing fuel from the tank.

It might be the fuel pump itself. Just a thought.
