Went to picnpul today and was surprised to see a 79 Monarch with a 250. The head was a hex log not flat so I left it- been looking for another head but want flat top for direct mount. I did take the DSII and module only $26 half price week. Trying to think of what else I should have taken.

Howdy bmbm40:

Take the head!!!! It is the best, largest intake tract, best hardened valve seat of any factory head. Check the Casting code. It is likely under the linkage attachment behind the carb. The air cleaner system is one of the best too. Low profile and Climactic for hot and cold air intake. Although it is a hex shaped log it is larger than earlier hex logs and can easily be modified for a direct mount two barrel.

What trans is with the engine? What's the engine/trans combo priced at? The combo is money. IF you get it get the slip yoke end of the driveshaft too.

On the DS II get the wiring harness with the connectors too. Also the Coil and its horseshoe attachment.

Adios, David

You talked me into it! I did not know it could be modified for direct mount that is good news.
It has an auto trans probably a c4. Did not ask them for the combination price. How much are they worth typically? Don't know about pullling everything. Would have to get help.
The front spindles were already gone.

If you're taking the Head or complete setup, try to get the cable throttle brackets on engine and pedal hardware. 'save time and effort later for sure... . Also if you can, take all elec as far as you can get . Alt / starter / ign / wiring ....

there's most of a donor Maverick in my two early cars ..

I ended up getting the head only although I hated not to get the block. The odo showed 67,000 miles and the brake pedal looked almost new no discernible wear. No ridges on the cylinder wall that I could tell. Coudn't round up any help today. The casting code is D8BE 8080 BA and no sludge under the valve cover. The valves had a light carbon coating I could probably clean it up and use it but have some mods in mind, just been waiting for the right head. Half price day came to $32.70 with tax, wish they had more. I forgot to get the air cleaner may go back out to get it tomorrow. Thanks for the replies. Now will have questions about the mods.

Nice score on the head, got another 1? I'll go U on the price so U got your's free.
Wish I lived in an area that didn't crush everything 10 yrs or older,,,

Powerband- Got the throttle cable bracket but did not think about the pedal part. Maybe should look at that although not sure if it would apply to my Bronco application.
Chad- Only have one so far but on the lookout for another, never hurts to have spares at that price.
Jackfish- Have 5 speed manual in the Bronco.

Good 2 C U again.
Still wrkin on gettin the 4.1 in da ol bronk.

Yeah, log head's niicce! Finally able to breath in the fresh air B 4 they dumped a good idea ("...has a better idea"). Love 2 send U some money - got the 250 (1 from TN ['75] B 4 the VA ['69] 1 arrived) and a head would B cheeper to ship then they

Well I just coudn't leave the block so I went out Saturday afternoon and pulled it. Got the air filter housing too. Now I need to buy a used engine stand.

cheeper to ship
Last time I wuz in Tonapah I saw an original Morris Minor next to a Studabaker pick up in their junk yard. May B there's a log head for me...
Think it'd fit 1 of my 250s?

Haven't been to Tonopah for awhile but no telling what you will find in rural/central NV.
I will be in the DFW TX area for a couple months going to check some yards there. I probably don't need any more complete engines but would not mind having extra large log heads as they may be getting harder to find. This 79 250 has a one piece bracket on the drivers side for the alt and power steering pump that I like. Uses a modern looking pump instead of the the old Thompson style I have now and the pump and the alt has the two belt pulleys so a 95 amp 3g upgrade should work out. The alt and pump should stay adjusted properly longer and less slipping and squealing belts.

I like it!
The frnt of my motor is a mess - sno plow pump, PS, on-bd-air, etc. Love to figure how to clean it up, add 1 more. That's an idea.
