250 Head 2V conversion question

I have a 1975 250 head that will be going on a rebuilt 200 block. I had a shop do the direct 2V conversion and upon completion the shop owner told me he had to plug the port on the intake manifold and reinforce with jb weld because the wall of the manifold was so thin in that area after milling. Here are some pics that show the conversion. I think on my stock engine this was used as a vacuum port, and the port on the carb base was used for the PVC vent hose, I just can't remember (pic below). My main question is will the permanent closure of this port cause issues?? Is this actually a vacuum port?

I have posted most of my build comments in the intro section. This is my first build experience and I am trying to learn as much as possible but I am definitely a novice. A highly recommended shop will be doing the assembly on the engine. I'm just trying to learn as much as I can during the process and be able to offer as much information as I can. Let me know if there is other information that will assist with answering this question. All help is greatly appreciated. Hopefully I post these pics correctly.

It does look like a vacuum port, but I can't say for sure. My old log heads didn't have one there, but no reason they weren't added later.

Unless you had something that was using it, no reason you'll need it. However, depending on the dizzy set up, you'll need an unported vacuum source. But it looks like your shop gave you one on the adaptor piece. Looks pretty good actually.

BTW, welcome to FSP!

Just looking at the picture, it appears that they gave you another large vacuum port in the adapter, so I don't suspect you will have any issues.

My c4 was ported to the log there, I'd be curious about the vac drop between the log and adapter, but i expect the delta to be low.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. That makes me feel better. I will be running a DUI distributor. No power brakes or AC or power anything as of right now. I will be using my rebuit C4, and now that you mention it CobraSix, I believe that's where my C4 was routed also.

Just curious how much did they charge you for this? I'm looking in to doing this while my current engine is in the car. If anything just to get rid of the 1100

if your looking to use a 2bbl for race applications the price can be up there...

if you supply the $200 core head... that saves some money.... but CL charges IIRC $450 to BRAZE the metal to the head, and guarentee it for life... the putty (thicker JB weld) is a 1 yr warranty... I've already had to replace the putty on my head after 1.5 yrs of use.

with my head i've invested $1500 into it, to make it flow 144cfm @ .450 lift... that's not much when for the money i know whe nit used to flow 126cfm stock, but i got valve guide put in, port and pocket the head, largest valves availible for the head possible... cheaper to buy the alum.

in the end, if you just want a 2bbl head, do just the conversion, don't go flow... get a small 300cfm 2bbl carb and drive and be happy, a good 1bbl upgrade would be a carter YF, they flow 225cfm and made 20hp over those 1100's on my car at the dyno. rockers won't do anything to the 1100's, they are MAXED at 95hp... depending temp and elevation of course.

First the port that is pluged is for any vacuum needed, auto trans, power brakes and emission stuff on newer 200's. Second the port on your new plate is for the pcv. I just installed a holley 5200 and like the way it sounds. I haven't driven it yet as it's winter here but it sure seems to have better response. I used the adapter plate from stovebolt but I like your set-up better. I have a 250 head from a 77 maverick that I think I will get redone this summer and then use a autolite 2100 on it with an exhaust header.

I am about to have my local machine shop perform a 2V conversion on an '81 200 head.
What brands of putties & metal fillers have you used, and what have been the results?
Also, how much more reliable is brazing in your opinion?

Thanks for your time, any input is appreciated.

I would have started a new thread, but this one had pretty recent posts,
so i figured nobody would mind if I jacked it
