2V Conversion

After 18 months of false starts including 14 months of not having a place to work on the car and my most of my tools in storage while we decided where to settle, I think I am finally ready to get started back on installing a 2V converted head. Had Mikes machinist do the the work on a D8 head. I'm needing some advise on how and with what carb to proceed. I've got both, a used Holley with the adapter, but no spacer and a new Weber I caught on sale a year ago, but I don't have an adapter or spacer. Even though I think that I will have to have it "re-jetted" my gut tells me go with the Weber because it's much newer and a progressive and spend the extra for the adapter and the spacer. Needs some feedback.

The second area is the accelerator linkage. I'm totally lost. I've got the accelerator pedal, bracket and cable from an '82 Zepher as advised previously, but I do not know how to proceed. Does anyone have detailed pictures of how you installed the accelerator and the various brackets used to route the cable. I've checked the pictures on the CI site, but can't make out enough detail to determine what to do.

>> Not sure what mounting flange of your D8 - 2Bbl converted head , for what carb to "bolt on"?. Which Holley and which Weber, for what driving?..

> Most carbs can be simply interchanged with plate adaptors from Mr.Gasket, Holley, and other aftermarket vendors. The plates are usually go either way ( :? ), and gaskests are usually interchangable. Pics could help.

> Cable throttles are simplest with the typical over-the-valve cover bracket used for sixes . The Zephyr pedal probably need somee finagling on the floor and carb throttle bracket to pull throttle plate.

I have pics of a few more cable setups here:

The following are the parts I currently have for this project. I originally had wanted to do the new Weber 32/36 that I already had obtained, but the 32/36 direct adapter was not availible at the time the work was done and it had been milled for a Holley. Was under the impression that I could get a direct mount later.

We should get together and swap notes soon...

We've got a 200 with a Weber 38/38 on an adapter in one 'chero, and I'm putting a 200 with a direct mount Holley style 2v in the other one.
(And, yes, I'm in Las Vegas too.)

Here's an adapter used to go from small Weber size flange up to the big Holley 2300 flange or the other way around...

The Holley 2300 vs the progressive Weber32/36 (or Holley/Weber 5200 series) , is more suited for purpose built peformance than overall drivability. The progressive will yield smoother low RPM/speed response and much better MPG. The 2300 is available either in 350 or 500 CFM configuration vs @ 200-300 CFM for the progressive.

As Airbert mentioned, with the progressive I also use the stock rod linkage simply (bent) formed to fit.

With the 2300 I used cable linkage but carb float has to be "sideways" which was not a problem.

Sorry for dragging on responding to the feed back. Have decided to go with the Weber 32/36, so I'm now waiting on the parts from Mike to see what I have to do to get from the original adapter for the Holley and get to the base of the Weber.

That head sure looks nice. In the picture it looks like a hex log, is that the case? I have been under the impression that only flat top logs could be milled for direct mount 2v.

Thanks for the link to Summit, it helped explain some of what I couldn't picture in the mind and just in case I change my mind, I'm going to keep the Holley. Not sure about what years are which on the transition from round log to Hex and or Flat head. The one pictured is stamped D8BE 6080.

Hoping this isn't another false start on getting this car back on the road. If it wern't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all. Late yesterday morning, I took the car out of the garage to drive around the complex and when I went to back it into the garage, I heard adand felt a loud band when I shifted into reverse, and that was the end of having a reverse gear. Can't check into that until next week.

Powerband, do you know if the same kind of carb setup in those pictures would work in a mustang under hood clearance? I see they used an adapter over the stock ford plate, and im just not sure if this would work on my mustang with a weber.

My D8 head has a Holley 350 style 2bbl adapter plate direct mounted.
