'70 distributor and carb

I've got a bud with a 1970 Maverick, Carter carb, and stock distributor. As long as he's had it, there's never been a vacuum line from the distributor to the carb. Is there supposed to be? It runs rough sometimes, but sometimes it doesn't. Thought that might be something.

Well, AFAIK there should be a vac line from the distributor to some sort of vacuum source for the vac advance...

The only dizzys I have ever seen without vac advance on them (till the 80's when they went to electric spark control) was on marine and industral equipment like tractors.

Yes, the '70 distributor is designed to help the engine run more smoothly and economically with a ported vacuum source from the carb to the distributor.

There may be a reason that the hose is not there. If the diaphram in the canister is cracked, it would cause a full time vacuum leak. A privious owner may have chosen to simply disconnect and plug the vacuum port on the carb. Check it out.

Adios, David
