My car has been running great for months, 19 mpg city, up to 27 highway. Today it decided to start bogging during around town driving. It just falls flat unless I floor it. It does ping slightly. Vac gauge showed 20+ inches, no flutter. Plugs and cap/rotor are fine, all plugs firing, and I bypassed the fuel filter with no change. I am guessing fuel pump. Any ideas?

Bad fuel (water?)?
Restriction of some sort in the exhaust? Plugged converter? Bent pipe? Stuck EFE valve (if it has one)?

Probably not the gas, I filled my wifes 2004 GP at the same station earlier inthe day. It ran great for 2 days after filling up. Cat is hollow, pipes are good. Is the EFE valve for the flap in the air cleaner housing? I have that flap setup to stay open all the time, which was never a problem before. If I rev the engine in park it will bog at 2000 +/- rpm's.

EFE is the valve in the exhaust, its usually mounted between the manifold and the down pipe. Im not sure how common they are on the inlines, they may be more of a V8 thing. Early ones had their own stat coil on them and the later ones were vacuum controled.

Does the 1946 have a power valve like the 2bbl and 4bbl holley's? If it does and its blown that would explain a sudden problem like that.

The PV in 1946 has no diaphgram, there is not much that could go wrong with the PV. It can get stuck though, check its piston and needle.

Checked idle mixture, it was fine. Verified fuel pump pressure at 7-7 1/2 PSI. I have to check fuel volume. Checked for vacumn leaks and found nothing. Idle is great, steady vac at 20-21, but it surges and bogs at 1200 rpm's.

Im no expert but 7- 7 1/2 seems high for a carb. Isnt 3-4 more common?

Edit: just checked the 66 manual and it said 4-6 psi

Fuel pumps are cheap, and if yours is OK now it will eventually fail, so I'd swap it out. If it's good, then you now have a spare.

Got a new pump at Autozone and it runs great. 2nd pump in two years, my father in law replaced it when he first got it. This car sat for a few years before he bought it. It still has only 32000 miles. Thanks everyone.
