Accelerator Pump

Someone mentioned disablling the accelerator pumps on the outboard carbs on an Offy set up. What's the best way to do it. I tried disconnecting the rod from the spring under the carb, but that causes a total lack of tension on the throttle arm.

it all depends on what carb you have. on a YF, pull off the top and you can pretty well figure it out without much trouble. but i bet i could take out teh pump and the YF would be fine.
basically, find the linkage to it and you should be able to find a way to beat it
good luck--josh

Got the autolite 1100. As noted earlier, removing the linkage just created aditional problems in trying to control the idle without the spring action it creates to pull the throttle arm back.

If that has a check ball setup for the accelerator pump, removing the balls should stop the pumping effect; fuel will just backwash into the float bowl.

Sort of like the "Beginner's guide to Carb Rebuilding" when people say their accelerator pump no longer works, or the engine dies when blipping to WOT after a rebuild... They lost the check ball!
