after my 43 year old motor mounts went(only 43 years what crap) and the fan cut a huge circle in my NEW 3 row radiator i am back to RE fixing the problem

i wish to put the temp switch in the bottom or return line of the radiator. in other words if the 3 row doesn't do the job the fan kicks in... is my reasining sound and any opinions on how to seal this thing in there. i am still running the generator so the less it runs the better

i have a new set of mounts, 3 row and 14 inch? electric fan, and adjustable thermo switch.

honestly, with a clean functional cooling system, you won't need an electric fan. If you do add one, just remove the mechanical one altogether.

I have 63 Merc (with a 250) and a 3 row with a 14" pusher fan w/temp switch and no mechanical fan. Originally I had the temp switch "T'd" into the lower rad hose using a "T" fitting from the plumbing section of the hardware store. However, the metal "T" fitting rubbed against the oil filter ever so slightly and eventually caused a very slow oil leak that took me a while to discover (not a place I'd usually think to check for leaks...). So I bought a new upper thermostat housing that was threaded and tapped the switch into the metal hole (aleady there) and it works fine. Good luck!

I want to add an electric fan. I believe I have like 2 3/5" clearance between the radiator and the pump shaft. Can this be true for a stock 200?

Other question. What kind of fan/how big a fan should I add. 12" for stock engine? I want to put in a t-stat relay too.

Opinions? Advice?

that isn't enough clearance to do much with. This being the reason the vast majority of us have pusher fans. I was able to place a 16" pusher with just a few mods to the hood release.
Looking back, I could have went with a smaller fan thus needing less mods to install it. My fan doesn't stay on long when and if it comes on at all. Keep in mind, my cooling system is in 100% perfect working order with an aluminum radiator as the cornerstone.

By far, the best place to put the sensor is at the block outlet, not at the radiator outlet.

You want the fan to key on engine temperature, not the radiator.

I have a temp sensor bung at the block outlet (top hose/t-stat). I am looking at 12" fans. Flex-a-lite has a dual w/ 2500 cfm. Zirgo and Flex-a-lite have singles at 1250 cfm. How much air do you need for a stock 200? A string from two years ago or so makes me think that 1250 is enough (Flex-a-Lite 110 from Summit).

I would get a fan off of ebay - theyr'e a LOT cheaper. Also, can your genator handle the initial draw of the fan? Depending on the fan, it will probably be 25+amps.

Stock generator, fan draws 11 amps. Hmm. What does the stock alternator make, or rather what do you need for a bone stock electrical system with Pertronix blaster coil?
