adjusting roller rockers

I get the theory on how to do it. What I cant do is physically adjust them. I couldnt budge them at all with a spanner. obviously some sort of trick to it

Most all roller rockers have Poly Locks so they don't loosen up in use. Is there a hex head in the center of adjusting nut (can't see the top of nut in your picture)? If so you use a box end wrench with a Allen key (wrench) in center to unlock the nut than make your setting and re-lock.

Sorry, can U understand USAenglish, we certianlly use different wrds for the same things...

box end - just as it sounds - a 6 sided [or 8 sided & 'closed'] spanner,

Allen or hex spanner again like it sounds - a small bar with (don't wanna go out to my barn & count the sides of 1, it's cold out there) 6 or 8 sides that is bent @ the end 90* to fit inside a fastener & for leverage.

HTH & doesn't confuse, lemmie know.

yep, can understand USA speak... :)

Heres a couple more pictures.

A 3/16 Allen (Hex) key fits inside the locking part & a 1/2inch spanner goes on the nut itself

Can not get it to move, Im scared of breaking something, im leaning on them that hard
I Have tried both clockwise & anti clockwise with the spanner.

Must be something Im missing. Im pretty sure these are the ones Mike used to sell.

I realise this may be a tad hard to sort out this far away....

Yeah on the Poly Locks I have used (they do look different than yours) to unlock you need to turn the center 3/16 hex key first as you hold the 1/2 wrench from moving (counter clockwise should loosen it clockwise tightens the 3/16 hex key)

Edit: :oopsie: Those locks are made the opposite way of the ones I had. Can see I am wrong now after reading MPGmustang's post it makes more sense. The threaded center is made in one piece and has a ball end, so the 1/2 nut locks it the the rocker arm

On mine, I had to loosen that nut first, then use the hex to adjust where I needed it then tighten that nut back up.

don't move the hex until the nut is loose.

to loosen the nut you turn anti-clockwise, put some oil on it, it helps. Also if you want put the hex in and have both hands try'n, one pushing one pulling. it will loosen. Clockwise tightens.

I may B like our friend 1/2 world away.
I don't wanna break anything (read not much experience, tentative). What's helped me wuz a "how much tq" to apply spec. If U have a tq spanner my Down Under friend, u can twist away till U reach the tq specs w/o fear of damage.

Can any 1 give a ball park figure? (my "real mechanic' friends seem 2 have a tq wrench in their wrists & just do it both in remove AND replace w/o need for the specs).

That and the foregoing sequence of operations should just bout do it...

GOT IT

After the suggestion of a torque wrench I thought Id give it a go. I started at 20lb/ft, no budge, then 30 and finally 40 with a bit of hesitation on my behalf it came loose.
Thanks all for your help

way ta go! nother skill under yer belt!
(wish I hada tq wrench, if I trade ya a beer can I borrow yourn?)
