I ordered parts from Clifford today and the parts man said they are working on a crossflow aluminum head with a removable manifold. Also that this would accomadate up to a two barrel. Cost will be around $2000.
Told them to forget it. too expensive. Also this has been in design for over a year and behind production by over a year.

yeah, heard the same thing about 8 months ago whenI called them for a port divider. I'm hoping they do it...would be a nice alternative, especially as the Aussie heads are getting harder to find, and more expensive, but I'm not holding my breath.

sure I would like performance but that's half of what I paid for my car.

The price isn't that bad if you think about it.

The Aussie head, bare, cost about $600. That would need to get rebuilt, and if you wanted larger valves, you're looking at about $200-400 for depending on what you want done. So already, you are looking at $1k. If for $1k more you could get a xflow head...I'm game, depending on how much more it would let me get out of the car and how it's designed.

Why 2bbl? If they are going through all that effort at Cliffys, why not make provisions for a 4bbl??

Here is a email I got today for Larry at Cliffords......

We are working very hard but still not a dilivery date. we are hoping for late September. Price? sorry, not yet. we hope around $1,300.00 but we honestly do not know. When I am 90 days away, I will put it all over the web site. Then we will begin taking orders.

If Clifford is willing to go out of their way to produce a head for our 200ci and for the fraction of the of the people who would even consider modifing their 200 and to support options to the inline community let them do it. Even if it may be too expensive they will find out and probably stop producing it if it is. It may even open up the idea to more people building hi buck V8's to reconsider the six. Just because many might think its expensive there is a world of others who may think its not too bad. As Slade said when campare to a USED aussie head , which ready to go will be at least $1000, the NEW aluminum, crossflow, gauranteed to work head and probably be better than any aussie 2V for $1500-2000 may not be so bad. After all aren't any decent aluminum heads for a V8 at least $1500? (Sorry this sounds rantish).

geez thats like 3 grand canadian....three times more than i paid for my car....and about what i already put into it.... :? but if its good for an extra 50+ HP i'm for it....but i still like the idea of customizing an integral head....

Well, I'm looking into Al heads for my Pontiac 428; the $1300 seems right in that price range. But what about cam? and pushrods? and gaskets? Edlebrock sells an Al head for Pontiacs but then you have to buy different exhaust manifolds than the typical D port head. You have to buy "RA-IV" or round port manifolds. I ownder if Cliffy will be doing the same thing? Any word on "what else" has to be purchased if you go with the Al X-flow head?

Esslinger Engineering makes a "New Aluminum Street Head" for the 2.3L OHC and it can use stock intakes and exhausts and costs $1500.

If I remember right, I talked to them a few months back when I was ordering my valves and they said the head was going to be complete. Now I don't remember if that included the rockers and pushrods too, but isn't the Aussie a bare head?

They're usually bare because they're bought in a "needs rebuild" state with worn valves and beat out seats. Occasionally he'll get them "ready to roll" but you'd have to ask.

I'll be first in line to buy one.
If they do make one I'll be selling the turbo header and down pipe on my wife's Falcon. I'll have to redesign one for the crossflow anyway!
Maybe Clifford would like a turbocharged test vehicle to try out their design! We need a sponsor anyway! Hint...hint!
Later,
Will

I have been told the Aussie Crossflow head will not fit a standard American 200 block.
