Check my posts in the eye candy-I'm using JC Whitney chrome cleaners that are sold out of the volkswagen catalog- 10 bucks or so apiece and maybe 4 or 5 bucks for the elements.
I used the smallest one I could find at the parts store but it was too big for the 1bbl neck so I made an adapter collar out of pvc tubing and a rubber coupling.
I took the stock base and modified it (cut and welded it) to a generic 12 inch Mr. Gasket 4 barrel chrome air cleaner. It served me well for years now I have to do the same for a 2 barrel weber carb I got on mine now.
Patrick66 (and WAGNERGEAR) I noticed that the air cleaner advertised on the RestoreMustangs.com website says that it is for the 289 engine! Does this air cleaner fit the single barrel; either the Autolite 1100 or the Motorcraft 1940 carb?? That is a nice looking air cleaner! Thanks, Jim
Or cut down the original base to use with a 9" or 10" aftermarket lid and filter.
One thing you need to be aware of is that the stock air cleaner is also doing duty as a muffler. At part throttle the stock 1bbl carb makes some really loud sucking sounds!
