Although you are looking for Ford engine comments.

A net friend runs mid 13's with his 66 Nova with a warmed up 250 chevy six, T-350 tranny. He has run it for several years and is always tweaking on stuff.

he ran a 4 speed for a few years then switched to the automatic for something different. it took him a while to get the car as fast with the automatic.

I have a friend in the very 12's aiming at the 11's if he uses slicks. He has an iron headed 250 crossflow with triple Webbers.

Hey ponyrider66,

Here is a site that I find fun to play with.

www.web-cars.com/math/qtr_mile.html

Basically, a stock 66 C4 Hdtp (2670 lbs) with me (185 lbs) and some fuel will weigh 2870. Assuming 90HP @ 4000rpm ("Net HP" number quoted in 1972 with 8.3 CR), the program says 20 sec and 73.8 mph. To get this same car to 13 sec would require 329HP.

Drop 200lbs (2670) and the stock car will run 19.5sec and 75.5mph.

I estimate my car at 120HP. The car weighs 2479, and I'm still working on it. Although, after dropping 200lbs additional weigh loss will be expensive. But what the heck. Anyway, the calculator says the car will run 17.7 and 83. A stock 289-2V runs 18 and 82. A HIPO 289 runs 16.4 and 90.

I am in the process of building a D8 head with an "engineered by me" 3x1 sidedraft intake. I will change the cam when I install the head. CR will be 9.5. With these change I am expecting 160HP with no weight gain. Calculator says 16.1 and 91. Since my goal has been to make my 6 run like a HIPO 289 I am very pleased with this possibility.

Next step, less weight. Figerglass, Lexan and aluminum.

13 sec 1/4's, I guess anything is possible.

I guess my car would run good into the 13s through the 1/4. It ran 9.0s in the 1/8th @80mph with the 13' tires and small shot of nitrous. Got to have a power adder!

Steve, I think the question was to get into the 13's...not 13-flat.

One of the web hp calculators calls for 211 RWHP to get a 2870 lbs car to run 13.9 in the quarter.

I think that's quite possible with a turbochcarged 250 in a '66 coupe like mine. Time will tell... ;)

I have gone 14.60 with no power adders all motor. I just got the nos system installed on the ranch and am hoping to do a few hot laps before we take it to the track next sunday. I have never used nos so it will be a steep learning curve but I feel absolutely no problems going into the thirteens. Hopefully next week I will have some tire smokin pictures for you.

dude at 2850lbs, stock or worse motor, crap tires, trunk full of tools, crap gas, and old oil on a hot day i went 19.1's consistently. forget lexan, its a waste of money and not street legal. either build the hell out of the motor or use a small power adder (on a motor/car set for it) and you're knocking on 13's door. it can be done but it takes $$ and no girlfriend

There's people here in the tens with a turbo/intercooler, either LPG or EFI rigs. Think I saw a new sleeper the other day - an OHC wagon with twin turbos, about a mile from my house. It's an ex-cab and looks rough outside.

I used to be able to run a 100 yrd dash in under 13 seconds...heehee
