I just put rebuild kit for the 1100 in my 68 200ci L6 in my 1960 Comet. She seams to run much better now, but during the process I noticed that my choke cover was cracked and warped plus the choke base looks possibly warped as well. For now I just disabled the choke. I was considering finding the parts to replace it, but as cheap as a fully rebuilt carb is I'm thinking I might as well just upgrade the whole carb. I wouldn't mind a little more umph but mostly I'm just looking for a smooth good running primarily stock engine. I've been doing a lot of poking around on the forums trying to decide which way I want to go.

All that said for not too much difference in price I can pick up an 1101, which from what I understand should pretty much just bolt right up, or I could get a carb adapter and put a 2 barrel on it. On a basically stock motor am I wasting my time with the 2 barrel? The 1101 from a 250 already flows more than the stock carb. The 2 barrel might be too much carb. Any thoughts or input is appreciated.

If it matters at all it's a 68 200ci engine with a pertronix coil and ignition module, but otherwise completely stock.

Oh, and hello, this is my first post even though I've been trolling around here since 2004. This is the 1 time out of 100 that I couldn't just find all my answers by digging around in old posts.

If the carb is original from 68 it is acutally downsized in cfm from previous 1100's to about 150cfm grom 187cfm. So that right there is a limiting factor since you have the small log head an 1101, carter rbs, or carter yf will require an adaptor. I had the same head and simply went to a mchine shop and had them punch out a piece of aluminum with the correct size hole for the larger 1 11/16 throttle bore. Then i simply bolted everything up and the rbs ran great. Now i have got a rochester 2 jet off a chevy smallblock and that gives much better performance than the 1bbl. My motor is pretty much stock with only a duraspark II and exhaust. I actually think the 2bbl mod is easier because you can just order an adaptor and carb to fit.

And welcome to THe Forum.

THe only adaptation necessary with the '69 1101 is to taper the top of the stock carb adaptor to clear the larger butterflys of the 1101.

All else should bolt up. Fine tuning will be needed, but start by adding 5 degrees of initial advance over stock specs. You would also do well by starting with a fresh set of spark plugs gapped at .045".

I like the 1101 upgrade. It is much less involved than a two barrel upgrade.

Adios, David

That's exactly the kind of info I needed. Thanks a lot. What about the jet in the carb? Do you think I'd need to change to a smaller jet?
