- How do they work out where the outer lines up with the inner? I am curious.

Works out great  I don't know how they go about rebuilding them but Damper Doctor is the best! http://members.aol.com/damperdoc/

There is also Damper Dudes, 5509 Cedars Rd #2, Redding, CA 96001, 1-800-413-2673

I think the two owners were buddies or brothers ( I forget which) and they split and formed two different companies. But, I have heard of problems with Damper Dudes. Alot of shops get there dampers from Damper Doc.

Something that should never happen with two components of a damper...especially at 5000 rpm!

The stock dampers are pretty bad. One Holden L6 engineer called all six cylinder balancers "ratshit", Ford or GM.

Only good for a stock engine tootling, as they say. The process control on repo has to be right. If the elastomeric bonds break, then its just good fortune that will keep things together.

I've seen lots of detail changes over the years. A US 200 or Oz 221 balancer should be okay if the engine isn't wrung-out all the time. An Oz 250 uses similar equipement to the little US 200's, and they break often.

The US 250 balancer is heaps better, but its not a straight bolt up. The aftermarket Romac, Fluidamper and such like are very expensive.

Well, I'm one of those inquisitive types. The Irrational 345 is leaking too much oil (way too much) and I'm pretty certain the balancer has spun, the leaks having slowly rotted the rubber.

But I want to be sure that Ross get the thing properly realigned during their recondition. The rotating assembly on these motors is very large, and it's trying to self-destruct right now.
